Watching should be Delightful
No one wants to have a bad time when they decide to sit down and watch a piece of entertainment. I believe this is true even for audiences who choose to watch hard and challenging films, or engage with stories about difficult and upsetting subjects.
For instance, I kind of hate the House of the Dragon, but I watch every week, and I love doing so -- even though I find its characters and storyline makes me mad! So what's that about?
I propose two things:
1. it is delightful to engage with a narrative that has a point of view, even if you don't like the POV.
2. I think it helps when the makers are clearly having a good time -- it has a way of bleeding onto the screen and can be infectious to us as audience members, regardless of the content itself.
So make your projects delightful, and delight in making them. Most of what we do after all is play pretend with a bunch of relatively expensive equipment.
