Raising Financing Ain't No Fantasy
If you're an independent (or not so independent) filmmaker, your number on question is probably "Where can I find the money for my project?!" I know because I've asked it a dozen times before. And I've been asked it dozens of times too!
Unfortunately, I still haven't found the silver bullet, but there are some principles that I think help:
1. Believe in Your Project Your passion is contagious. If you genuinely believe your film is fantastic, you’re already halfway to convincing potential investors. Your confidence will help you stand out and make others believe in your vision.
2. Know Your Stuff Knowledge is power. Do the necessary research, understand your project's financial needs, and know exactly what you’re asking for and how you’ll spend it. Remember, filmmaking is a business, and you need to present your project in a way that showcases it as a worthwhile investment.
3. Make the Pitch About Them It’s not just about what you need; it’s about what you’re offering to investors. Clearly articulate the benefits for them and frame your project as a valuable opportunity.
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask No one will invest if you don’t ask! Build the courage to reach out and present your project. You never know who might be willing to support your vision.
....Still looking for my benefactor though, so if you're looking for a benefactee? Holler.
